The Big Ten Conference has confirmed that the football season will resume next month.

In a release at BigTen.org, the conference says all 14 teams will be playing. The season is set to resume October 23-24. The vote for returning was unanimous by the Council of Presidents and Chancellors.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green and Husker Athletic Director Bill Moos released a statement in light of the announcement.

“We are very pleased with the decision by the Big Ten to play football this fall after carefully considering the extensive work by the Medical Committee.

The safety protocols established by the conference are the most stringent in the country, and will help protect our student-athletes, staff and coaches. At Nebraska, we have worked hard since last spring to ensure the safety of our Husker family and are confident of the steps we’ve taken. We look forward to working with the Big Ten protocols and will be ready to play on October 24.

This is a big day for our student-athletes, coaches, our city, our state and all of Husker Nation. We look forward to seeing Coach Frost and our Huskers take the field – Go Big Red!”

Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez said on Big Ten Network (BTN) that a schedule will be released later this week. Alvarez added that each team will play nine games, formatted as eight regular season games then a championship weekend where not only will the top team in each division play, but so will the second place teams, third place teams, and so on for cross-division games.

Penn State Vice President Sandy Barbour said on BTN that the public sale of tickets will not be allowed, meaning no fans at games. Barbour added that the conference may work to have the families of players at games both home and away.

This is a developing story. Check back for more details.
