Retro games have been a big deal for the past few years. The free-standing video games of Ms. Pac Man, Astroids and Galaga sold out at Christmas a couple of years ago. So, you can make the assumption, that classic video games are a thing.

While games like Mario Cart, Madden, NBA2k and the like today goes for price tags as high at $70, back in the day a good video game on the Nintendo would cost $25.

Hold on to your hat for this one…and you may want to kick yourself if you sold off your Nintendo and Super Mario Bros. game. The classic Nintendo Super Mario Bros. just became the most expensive video game in history. The game that was sold in an auction was a 1985 edition of the game with a price tag of $114,000.  This just beat the original top price tag of an older version that sold for $100,500.

In both cases, the games were unopened and had some special marking that older versions did not have. So you may want to dig around, if you had this game, even the opened copies are worth big bucks.

Oh ya, if you need an original console to play it on, the last one sold at auction went for $40,000.
