There Is A Surplus Of Bacon

By News Apr 13, 2020 | 10:01 AM

COVID-19 has put a real strain on everyone in the United States.  This has caused numerous businesses to have limited supplies of various items like, hand sanitizer, paper towels, even laundry detergent.

While those items are hard to find, you may also find that meets are becoming a premium in the refrigeration section at your grocery store. One item you probably will see quite often in the refrigeration section is bacon.

The good and the bed:

  •  The good part is there is a surplus of bacon. You probably won’t have a problem finding any in the meat section or deli department
  • The bad part is the access of bake and we are seeing is a direct result of many restaurants no longer serving breakfast or closing their doors completely..

However, bacon isn’t the only thing you will readily find in the meat section, if you look in the poultry area, you will probably find a plethora of chicken wings, as well.

Just in the same way gas has dropped in price, because fewer people are driving, so goes some groceries. Right now, pork belly (where bacon comes from) prices are at some of their lowest levels in quite some time all because demand has dropped.

This is bad on a couple of levels, if the pork prices continue to drop farmers will be losing about $25 per head. The other bad thing is the lack of workers due to COVID-19. Some processors have temporarily closed.

Based on what I outlined, some things we can do to help the farmers…BUY BACON!!!! Bacon is one of the USA’s favorite meats, so buying bacon isn’t that crazy of an idea. Also, if you are doing take out from your favorite eatery, try to add in bacon…even if it is bacon bits.

Don’t forget, you can also find out where you want to eat…and even buy bacon with HelpLNK. You aren’t only helping the farming community, you are also helping the places they supply with bacon. It is incumbent on all of us help out where and when we can.
