Huskers to Stream Simulated Spring Game, Fans Invited to Participate

By News Apr 13, 2020 | 3:59 PM

Husker football will follow the NBA and NASCAR in filling the sports void with a virtual game.

Nebraska Athletics announced that they will stream a video game simulation of the Spring Game with rosters of Husker legends. The stream will take place on the same day and time as the since canceled live game, April 18 at 1 pm.

With the virtual players at Memorial Stadium, audio from Learfield IMG College/Husker Sports radio network will be incorporated as the game is played “to unite Husker Nation and honor the brave men and women of Nebraska and across this great country who are on the frontline fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Husker fans will also be able to participate by downloading #GBRUnited avatars and profile pictures for the first-ever Digital Sea of Red.

Fans can also show their support by wearing Husker gear, flying flags, and making game-day sign that support and salute “the resilient people, businesses, organizations, foundations and first responders in the Heartland who are taking risks each day to keep Nebraska safe, healthy and strong.” Those that do participate are asked to post across social media with #GBRUnited, where the GBR, typically standing for Go Big Red, is now Gracious – Brave – Resilient.

The Red-White Game’s stream can be found on @Huskers Facebook, @Huskers Twitter, and the HuskerFBNation Twitch channel.
