Dumbass Of The Day: Magnets In The Nose

By News Apr 1, 2020 | 11:29 AM

An astrophysicist, you would think they would realize the dangers of sticking things in your nose. Even more so, we learned this as a child…or we should have.

Not Dr, Daniel Reardon. He is a well known Australian astrophysicist…without common sense. As many of us are experiencing boredom, so is Dr. Reardon. His genius idea: create a necklace made of magnets that would prevent you from touching your face. After all, he is on a team to help fight COVID-19, why not use some down time to find ways to help in other ways.

Problem is,after searching for ways to make this idea work, he decided to shove the magnets in his nose and as magnets do, they stuck together…as in magnetic attraction…inside his face.

“At first it hurt, but I wasn’t too stressed,” he said. “I started to get more and more stressed when I realised it wasn’t going to be trivial to remove them.”

No, not trivial at all. In his infinite wisdom, he thought it would be a good idea to use another magnet to pull out the ones that were stuck…only to get that magnet stuck as well.

Not one to leave things be and seek professional help, he pulled out a pair of pliers, which didn’t work. The strength of the magnets were being pulled by the pliers, which caused him a ton of pain. Then, as he should have from the beginning, went to the ER, where they removed the magnets. According to Dr. Reardon, the doctors at the hospital had a good laugh at his expense.
